What have we been up to?
Region VI Is on Fire! August 2013
By Suzanne Menges, Region VI Director
When it comes to state activities, the Region VI states of Utah, New Mexico, Arizona, and California are creating exciting and FUN ways to promote beef, reach out to our consumers, and strengthen our organization! During the brief "Region Caucus" on August 7, we heard from each state about their events. The best part was that everyone walked away with ideas they could take back home.
New Mexico Cowbelles came across a gentleman selling pumpkins and other vegetables and turned it into a GREAT beef promotion event that teaches kids and their parents about animal care and beef industry practices. It made us all think about what is happening in our neck of the woods and how we could partner with an existing activity. New Mexico ladies also discussed how effective their annual district tours are to keep their locals engaged. With over 20 active local chapters, it must be working!
Utah CattleWomen showed their creativity by adding something unique to their "Wildly Important Goals" agreement with ANCW...a special window decal that shows off the partnership between the state and national organizations. What a terrific way to promote both groups and strengthen that relationship. Good job, Utah!
California CattleWomen can be proud of their approximately 1700 members in 29 units throughout the state. They have made great gains in membership through a contest in which a beautiful buckle is awarded to the person who recruits the most new or returning ANCW members and another one to the member who recruits the most CCW members. A third buckle is given to the member who turns in the most ANCW activity reports. Great ideas! CCW members are in classrooms, at county fairs, and in grocery stores sharing facts about beef. We're all looking forward to the 2014 Region meeting in beautiful Lake Tahoe April 30-May 2. State Chair Sheila Bowen has lined up top-notch speakers including the California Secretary of Agriculture. Be sure to mark your calendars.
The Arizona State Cowbelles also looked around the state to see where they could "piggyback" on an existing event and found the Tucson Festival of Books held on the University of Arizona campus. What a success! By sponsoring a chef to do a cooking demonstration and interacting with many of the over 100,000 people attending the Festival, Arizona Cowbelles influenced many meal-time decision-makers.
Thank you to everyone who attended this year's summer conference, and for all you do for this industry!
