As we celebrate our platinum (70th) year, we want to celebrate cattlewomen on the ranch, and their stories. You may choose to tell the story of a cattlewoman you know, or your own cattlewoman story, through your contest entry piece. Or use your imagination to see where “silver belles on the ranch” could take you…a Christmas ranch memory involving a cattlewoman…cowbells…or maybe you see silver bells on the ranch? Whatever comes to mind! Have fun with it. Help us celebrate!

Category Details, Rules, and Information:
Photo: Photos must be original photos, and should be printed and unaltered. If alterations are made for the effect of your photo, please specify. Any size print is acceptable.
Art: Art entry may be 3D Art, a drawing, a painting, or even a home décor piece. Any type of art creation is accepted. No size restriction, except that it must fit through a door.
Music/Performance: Music/Dance/Storytelling: Music entries may include anything related to music, but must be an original piece. Entries may be a song with or without lyrics, and may be on any instrument. May be a vocal song, instrumental song, or whatever relates to music. Music and/or lyrics must be an original piece. May be performed, or in written sheet music. Musicians may accompany the artists. Dance entries may use music from another source, but choreography must be original. Dancers may be groups, or individuals. Storytellers may use their own or someone else’s story, and all stories must relate to the contest theme. Storytelling may also include poetry out loud. Entries may be recorded on a CD or DVD or flash drive for review, or may be performed live. Live performances will be done before the judges, at 5:00 p.m. on November 29, 2017 at the Sheraton Hotel, in the Wasatch Room, and you will be notified of your time slot. Names will be drawn for order of performing. If you would like your performance displayed on the contest display table (on a computer), please have a recorded copy of your piece prepared on a flash drive or CD or DVD. The winner of this category may be asked to perform their piece at the UCWA annual meeting, if possible.
Video: Video should be between 1-3 minutes in length. Videos may be shorter, but no longer than 3 minutes. Video are to relate to the theme. Videos should be saved on a flash drive, DVD, or sent digitally for review. Videos may be asked to be shown at the UCWA annual meeting.
Writing: May write a short story or poem related to the theme. Preferably no longer than 3 pages. Please have a printed copy prepared for the display table. Winner’s piece may be read at the UCWA annual meeting. If winner is present, he/she may be asked to share it.
Leatherwork: Any type of leatherwork design is accepted, but must be original work. (In honor of our past Cowbelles, we are including leatherwork. In the earlier days of cattlewomen’s they held leather fashion shows. This entry does not need to be leather clothes, but rather any type of leatherwork designs or creations.)
Quilting: Quilt must be handmade, but may be machine quilted, and must have an original design related to the theme. Entry may be any size quilt, and not smaller than a 2’x2’ wall hanging.

Judging:

Judges will follow a rubric judging sheet. Rubric sheets will be posted on the UCWA website by November 10, 2017.

Where to pick up your entry item after contest:
Entry items that are not donated to UCWA should be picked up from the Sheraton Hotel, in the Wasatch Room, anytime between 1:30 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. on December 1, 2017. Any items left after 4:00 p.m. will become the sole possession of UCWA, and will be assumed to have been donated to UCWA for further auctions and/or fundraising purposes.
Donating entry items to UCWA for UCWA Auction:
It is not required, but if you would like to donate your entry item to UCWA, to be put in an auction for UCWA fundraising purposes, you may so indicate by checking the box on the entry form. Whether or not you donate your item to UCWA will NOT affect the contest in any way.

*Contest Rules:
- You may enter in as many categories as you like. All pieces entered must be original work by the entrant. All entries should relate to the theme (listed above). Contest officially starts on November 1, 2017 and ends November 29, 2017. Entry forms should be turned in on or before November 15, 2017.
- There are no restrictions on who may enter. Guys, Gals, children - anyone may enter the contest.
- There are no age requirements. Any age may enter the contest. (Children up to age 17 – not divided into categories, but they may enter in as many categories as they like.)
- All entries will be displayed at the UCA/UCWA Winter Convention November 30-December 1, 2017. If your entry is video, music, or writing, you may be asked to be part of the program.
- All category entries should relate to the chosen theme.
- UCWA annual meeting will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. at the Sheraton Hotel in Salt Lake City, Utah. All winners will be announced at the annual meeting.
- There will be a first, second, and third place ribbons awarded in each category. There will also be prizes for each 1st place winner of each category (all ages combined, including children). There will be two OVERALL winners, one for 18 & older, and one for 17 & younger.
- Entry pieces will be judged at the UCA/UCWA Winter Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah, on November 29, 2017 between 6:00-9:00 p.m., and displayed throughout the UCA/UCWA Winter Convention between November 30 – December 1, 2017.
